Interdisciplinary EducationProgram on Ocean Science and Policy

This is an educational program implemented in collaboration with many graduate school departments for the comprehensive development of ocean science and policy as an interdisciplinary field, with the aim of fostering human resources that will integrate and internationalize Japan’s marine policies. The program began in fiscal 2009.

A curriculum focusing on problem solving that spans the social sciences, natural sciences and engineering was established for students to acquire a broad, interdisciplinary education. Internship training in governmental institutions and other organizations, etc. is also provided to give students the opportunity for hands-on practice in applying the knowledge they obtained through the course material to real world situations.

Any graduate students of the University of Tokyo can take the course, regardless of the department to which they belong. For those who complete the course by earning the required credits of this program, a certificate of course completion will be issued separately from the degree.
