Hiratsuka Offshore Experiment Tower Program

The Hiratsuka Experiment Tower was acquired by the University of Tokyo from the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) in July 1, 2009. There is an offshore platform, the Hiratsuka Surge Observation Tower located 1 km off the coast of Hiratsuka that stands in a water depth of 20 m, and an onshore facility equipped with data processors. The Ocean Alliance uses this facility for marine observation, development of offshore instruments, as well as for activities to generate awareness of the ocean.
